Latarambeshwor Mahadev is a peaceful and spiritually significant destination nestled in the hills of Makwanpur. Surrounded by dense forests and panoramic views, the hike to the temple is as rewarding as the site itself. Popular among both pilgrims and nature lovers, it offers a perfect mix of religious reverence and natural beauty. Despite its relatively close distance from Kathmandu, the area feels refreshingly remote and serene.

The trail is well-trodden and moderately challenging, making it suitable for hikers of average fitness. On clear days, the views along the way and from the top are spectacular. Whether you're visiting for worship or just seeking a quiet escape into nature, Latarambeshwor Mahadev provides a fulfilling experience in just a day's journey.

My Journey to Latarambeshwor Mahadev

I took a bus to reach the starting point of the hike, which was an experience in itself. The journey began early in the morning as I made my way to Lagankhel, one of the main transport hubs in Lalitpur. The atmosphere there was lively with people heading to various destinations, and after a bit of asking around, I found the right ticket counter for Hetauda-bound buses. The ride offered a scenic glimpse of the hills and rural life outside the city, gradually transitioning from urban noise to peaceful countryside landscapes.

Here’s how I got there:

  1. Reach Lagankhel and find a ticket counter for Hetauda.

  2. Ask for Latarambeshwor Mahadev—the bus fare is around Rs. 220 (as of 2025) from Kathmandu to Baguwa.

  3. Bus Timings: The first bus leaves at 7 AM, with subsequent buses at 7:30 AM, 8 AM, and 8:30 AM.

The Ultimate Latarambeshwor Mahadev Hike

Once you arrive in Baguwa, the hike to the top is around 10 km. Initially, you follow a newly constructed road before entering the forest trails. Be prepared! The trail is challenging, so carry:

  • At least 2 bottles of water per person to stay hydrated.

  • Fruits or snacks to maintain energy

The hike is demanding, and hunger might slow you down, but the reward at the top is worth it. Once you reach the summit, all your exhaustion fades away as you take in the breathtaking views.

Facilities at the Top of Latarambeshwor Peak

  • There are 2 to 3 small shops for essential supplies, though prices are twice the usual rate.

  • After a 15-minute walk from the summit, you’ll arrive at the Latarambeshwor Mahadev Temple.
