Location: Makwanpur District, Nepal
Altitude: 2,700 meters (8,800 feet)
Distance from Kathmandu: Approximately 50 km
Hiking Time:
Ascent: Around 2.5 hours (for an average person)
Descent: Around 1.5 hours
By Private Two-Wheeler: You will need to walk only half the distance.
By Public Transport: Requires a longer hike.
By Private Four-Wheeler: Covers about 1/3 of the journey; after that, you must walk.
The trails are well-marked, and the best time to visit is at the end of Falgun or early Ashwin, when nature is at its finest.
I took a bus to reach the starting point. Here’s how I got there:
Reach Lagankhel and find a ticket counter for Hetauda.
Ask for Latarambeshwor Mahadev—the bus fare is around Rs. 220 (as of 2025) from Kathmandu to Baguwa.
Bus Timings: The first bus leaves at 7 AM, with subsequent buses at 7:30 AM, 8 AM, and 8:30 AM.
Once you arrive in Baguwa, the hike to the top is around 10 km. Initially, you follow a newly constructed road before entering the forest trails. Be prepared! The trail is challenging, so carry:
At least 2 bottles of water per person to stay hydrated.
Fruits or snacks to maintain energy
The hike is demanding, and hunger might slow you down, but the reward at the top is worth it. Once you reach the summit, all your exhaustion fades away as you take in the breathtaking views.
There are 2 to 3 small shops for essential supplies, though prices are twice the usual rate.
After a 15-minute walk from the summit, you’ll arrive at the Latarambeshwor Mahadev Temple.
Here’s a rough breakdown of the estimated budget for the hike:
Bus Fare (To & Fro): ₹440
Pooja Samagri: Variable (depends on personal preference)
Snacks & Drinks for the Hike: ₹150
Food & Drinks for Return: ₹460
Minimum Budget: ₹1,500+ (excluding pooja samagri)
Maximum Budget: Depends on personal spending
